Drex , a Central Bank project, will not use distributed ledger technology (DLT) in phase three. Instead, it will focus on encumbrance reconciliation to facilitate visibility of credit collateral within the traditional financial infrastructure, while maintaining the goal of reducing the cost of credit.

DLT has not been permanently discarded and may be revisited in future phases for asset tokenization, but there is no set timeframe. According to BACEN, the main challenge has been developing a privacy solution that serves both participants and BACEN itself. Among the six privacy solutions tested by the Central Bank, the one that deserves special mention is Ptah, developed by BBChain.


BBChain Ptah was tested in the second phase of Drex and also selected for Bacen's Lift Lab.
